Mahwah Referee Detailed Pre-game Checklist:

Pre-game Checklist (Download Checklist by CLICKING HERE)
- Arrive at least 20 to 30 minutes before start of game in proper uniform
- Greet coaches
- Check field for proper markings, corner flags, overall field condition, and ensure goals/nets are secure
- Check each player to ensure they have proper equipment
- Shin guards with socks covering shin guards
- Soccer cleats (baseball, football, softball cleats with extra cleat at the toe is not allowed)
- NO jewelry or anything sharp in hair or anything on wrist
- Simply tell them they can’t play with earrings. If they don’t want to take out, then they don’t play and that is their choice
- Taping is not an option. Only acceptable taped jewelry is medic alert bracelet
- Proper uniform and everyone is wearing same color jersey and same color shorts (if not, make a note for your report on NWBSA games)
- Check player passes and coaches passes
- NO deliberate headers in Division 4 or Division 5 - If deliberate header, award indirect free kick to opponent
- Keep passes in your possession and return at end of game (if you issue a red card, keep pass to send into league office)
- Conduct coin toss with visiting team calling the toss - winner of toss will choose goal to attack and other team has ball in first half. Team winning toss would get the ball in second half
- Make sure you know length of each quarter based on division
- - Division 5 (3rd/4th) = 13 minute quarters (NO HEADING)
- - Division 4 (5th/6th) = 16 minute quarters (NO HEADING)
- - Division 3 (7th/8th) = 18 minute quarters
- - Division 2 (high school) = TWO(2) 40 MINUTE HALFS
- Start game by first checking with visiting keeper or captain to ensure ready, home keeper or captain, other referee, if applicable, then blow whistle to start game
- Be energetic, keep up with play, blow your whistle LOUD when needed, and use good mechanics!
